Home PageFORMER OILERS STARS HONORED AT SATURDAY'S BLUE/WHITE GAME
The hanging of former Oilers star's jerseys was the highlight of Saturday's 3rd Annual Blue/White Game. In a tear jerking speech given by Oilers supporter Mary Royal, the jerseys of former Oilers forward Brandon McPhail and former Oilers defenceman Curtis Megginson, were unveiled, hanging in south end of the Alice Noble Ice Arena, to be seen by everyone for years to come! The ceremony was followed a fun game involving Oilers of the past and present. The Blue/White game was a follow-up to a championship season for the Oilers from Wooster Ohio. The new season will "officially" begin this Thursday, September the 2nd, as the Oilers take on former National Champions, The Mass Maple Leafs, in an exhibition contest. This will the first chance to see the 2010-2011 version of the Oilers hockey team as they prepare to begin their new season in the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League. Warm-ups will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday with game time at 7 p.m. at the Alice Noble Ice Arena. OILERS "SURVIVE" FIRST WEEK OF TRAINING CAMP![]() Junior hockey training camp is not what it used to be! Ask any one of the twenty Wooster Oilers players that just completed week one of their introduction to the 2010-2011 season. With two on-ice and one off -ice session, every day, last week, the boys found muscles they didn't know they had! " Its a totally different scenario than way back when I played" commented Oilers Head Coach Hart Duddy. " We would come to camp to get in shape...now the players better be in shape. Years of coaching at this level has taught me that an unconditioned player, is a player that cannot compete. The Oilers history, since I came to Wooster, has been we score more goals in the third period than the first period. Running the football bleachers and heavy conditioning skates in camp lays the foundation to our style of play. The motto is... we will not be outworked." concluded the coach. FORMER OILERS CAPTAIN SIGNS DEAL WITH THE AUGUSTA RIVERHAWKS PRO TEAM!
Former Oilers Captain and team leader of the 2009-2010 championship team, #20 Curtis Megginson, has inked a deal with the Augusta Riverhawks of the Southern Professional Hockey League. Curtis attended the Riverhawks free agent camp this weekend in Augusta Georgia, where only two, of dozens of hopefuls, were to be picked for the team, and impressed the team management enough to be offered a contract. " I knew I had to be at my best" stated Curtis in a telephone call on Sunday afternoon. " There were some pretty good players out there that had pro experience. I had to go full every shift. I felt good after yesterday, but I knew I needed to step it up even more, if I wanted a shot at pro hockey. I also knew my Grandpa was in my corner all weekend helping me from heaven" concluded the Oilers former captain. Curtis was referring to the passing of his grandfather last week in Canada as he prepared for his first professional tryout. Megginson had dedicated his tryout to his grandpa's memory. The entire Oilers organization is very proud of their former leader and wishes him nothing but the best of luck in his future endeavours in professional hockey! Oiler fans can send Curtis there best wishes THIS Saturday night, August 28th, at the Wooster Oilers 3rd Annual Blue/White Game, as Curtis will be on hand AND WILL PLAY in the inter-squad affair! Start time is 7:00 p.m. Megginson's number 20 jersey will be retired before the game gets underway, along with long time Oilers star Brandon McPhail's number 9 jersey.
